[ show footage of Reagan assassination attempt ] In 1980, John Hinckley stunned the nation when he attempted to assassinate newly-elected President Ronald Reagan. [ cut to clip from "The Facts of Life" ] Meanwhile.. on "The Facts of Life", Blair Warner butted heads with new girl Jo Polniazek. Jo Polniazek: "How'd ya like to eat ya teeth?" [ show footage of Space Shuttle Challenger exploding ] Announcer: In 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded within minutes of its launch, claiming the lives of six astronauts and one teacher who were onboard. [ cut to clip from "Diff'rent Strokes" ] Later that year, "Diff'rent Strokes" was cancelled, never again to be seen on NBC. Arnold Jackson: "What'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" [ show footage of Acid Rain Conference ] Announcer: In 1988, the Acid Rain Information Clearinghouse held its first conference to specifically investigate the interdependence of potential global climate changes and acid precipitation, air quality, and stratospheric ozone depletion. [ cut to clip from "Saturday Night Live" ] That same year, a young comedy writer named Conan O'Brien penned a short sketch titled "Nude Beach" for "Saturday Night Live", in which the word "penis" was spoken and sang a total of 43 times. Bob, Doug, Jack, Ted, Bill: "Penis, penis, penis, penis / Penis all day long.." [ cut to Conan O'Brien ] Conan O'Brien: Incidentally, it was because of this sketch that I was later hired to write for "The Simpsons". How's that for Classic Television!
