Lorne Michaels: Hi, I'm Lorne Michaels. The world was saddened this week by the death of former Beatle George Harrison. 25 years ago, back when we was fab, I delivered a televised offer to The Beatles, in which myself and the National Broadcasting Company were prepared to pay $3,000 to have the four lads from Liverpool reunite for an appearance on our show. The four of them never took us up on our offer, but George did make a solo appearance as a musical guest on our show several months later, on the night of November 20th, 1976. In his excitement, George mistakenly assumed the network would give him a fourth of the money for his solo appearance, then found it rather chincy that we were only offering the full amount if all four Beatles appeared on the show. In retrospect, I wish we had given him the $750, but.. my hands were tied. George, tonight we remember you. Thanks for everything you gave us. This one's for you.
