Announcer V/O: From Mel Gibson, the acclaimed director
of “Braveheart,” comes a film about one of the greatest religious figures of all time. That’s right…Siddhartha Gautama, otherwise known as the Buddha. Throughout his life, this larger-than-life man had to make several difficult decisions…
[Cut to the Buddha and his wife in their bedroom]
Buddha: I’m sorry my beautiful princess but I must leave you now.
Wife: Leave? What do you mean by leave?
Buddha: Listen sweets, we’ve had some good times but the road is calling me.
Wife: The road!!! Will ‘the road’ put food on the table? Will ‘the road’ pay your son’s tuition?
Buddha: There’s nothing I can do about it, this is my dream.
Wife: So, basically, what you’re saying is that you’re ditching your family for some crazy fantasy?
Buddha: Yeah.
Wife: (sarcastically) Good luck with that, hope it works out for you.
Announcer V/O: And many great sacrifices…
[Cut to a kitchen]
Chef: Hey Buddha, you want another bowl of steamed vegetables?
Buddha: Must resist…must think of all the poor people who go to bed hungry every night.
Announcer V/O: All to achieve enlightenment…
[Cut to the Buddha meditating under a tree]
Buddha: I finally see the light!!!
Follower: Silly Buddha, you’re staring directly at the Sun.
Buddha: Ha ha ha ha…my eyes!!!
Announcer V/O: “The Passion of the Buddha,” now playing in Tibetan Monasteries everywhere.
