Announcer: BBC ONE in good company with the American Comedy Committee present another installment of “Funny Forum”, a monthly discussion of the different types of comedy in American and in England. Please welcome now your forum moderator, Chester Allen of the London comedy troupe “The Calling of London Town”.
Chester Allen: Good evening, I am Chester Allen, from such British comedy classics “The Queen has fallen, and she can’t get up” and the recent “Someone Call The Plumber, The Lue Has Overflowed”. Joining us tonight is British comedy actor Rowan Atkinson, best known for his work as “Mr. Bean” and the priest in “Four Weddings & A Funeral”. Next, British comedy actor and writer, Mr. Eric Idle, best for known for his work with the Monty Python comedy troupe and his role as “The Bike Rider” in the American comedy “National Lampoon’s European Vacation”. Mr. Idle could you do that line for us all?
Eric Idle: Oh…oh…it’s okay, it’s just a flesh wound. It will be all right.
Chester Allen: Thank you, Mr. Idle. And now, our American guests, standup comic/comedy actor Mr. David Chappelle. I have no clue what he has done in his line of work, I don’t like black comics.
Dave Chappelle: It’s Dave, not David, bitch!
Chester Allen: Oh, it seems the black man is doing a bit of his comedy for us. Bravo! Next to the black fellow, is a dry standup comic, Todd Barry. He’s a dry comic, meaning he stole the British comedy trick of being subtlety humourous. Okay, gentlemen and Negro let us discuss the difference between British humour and American humor. Rowan, would you like to start?
(Rowan just makes stupid face like Mr. Bean into the camera and in Chester Allen’s face)
I see. You don’t say much. That’s rather annoying…yet funny, because he’s British. Mr. Idle, would you like to say something.
Eric Idle: Well, being a veteran of comedy, (farts) sorry, I know what’s funny. American comedy is stupid and trite compared to British (farts) sorry, comedy. American comedy and the American actors who do comedy use (farts) sorry, swearing to get laughter and that is rather sad and shameless. British (farts) sorry, comedy and the British actors who do comedy know that (farts) sorry, British humour is subtle and sophisticated. (Long fart) Sorry.
Chester Allen: I agree, Mr. Idle. American comedy is the overuse of the word “bitch”. American comedy is the overuse of fart jokes…
(Eric Idle farts again)
Eric Idle: Sorry.
Chester Allen: It’s quite all right. Fart jokes and penis jokes. Mr. Negro, I’m going to guess you have at least a half-hour of material based on how big your Negro penis is.
Dave Chappelle: I have a name, it’s David…Chappelle, bitch!
Chester Allen: Oh, I am foppishly frightened. Men, we must run before he comes mating after our sisters.
(All the British men run off the stage)
Dave Chappelle: Calm down. I’m just doing my angry black man bit. It’s cool.
(The British men slowly walk back on to the stage)
Chester Allen: That was absolutely splendid. Mr. Barry, we have not heard from you, yet, this good evening. Would you like to comment on the issue at hand?
Todd Barry: Sure. I think American comedy is great...British comedy is stupid. I saw a guy online at Benny Hill film festival at a movie theatre...I punched him in the face. At least, I think it was his face.
Chester Allen: Ha! That was simply splendid. I see we are running out of time for this day’s program, however, I believe we have time for a final thought. What is it we have learned today? Well, I think we have learned that British humour is the top of the pops and American humor poops in its pants and considers it funny! I’m Chester Allen for “Funny Forum”. Join us next time when our guest will be Graham Norton and Eddie Izzard, as well as a brilliant American comic, Robin Williams and some joker calling himself Pauly “The Weasel” Shore. I was not aware that Pauly Shore was a standup comic. Thank you for watching and good night.
(Camera fades out)
(Stage lights come up)
(Eric Idle approaches the main camera)
Eric Idle: Hello. I’m Eric Idle. In the last sketch we just presented, the main joke was the fact that ego maniac British comics consider British humour as the greatest there has ever been. I really can’t comment on the truth of that, not tonight, but I must say that a British person farting uncontrollably is rather funny. Funny, only if a British man is the one farting. I’m Eric Idle and cheerio!
(Eric ldle begins to walk off camera; farts; walks back in front of the camera)
Sorry.
(Fade out)
