Morgan Freeman's Monologue
written by: Brian Grigg

.....Morgan Freeman

Announcer (V/O): Ladies and Gentleman, Morgan Freeman!

[ Morgan Freeman enters to much deserved applause and merry-making ]

Morgan Freeman: Thank you, thank you. I am thrilled to be here, hosting Saturday Night Live! [ cheers ] I could come up here, and talk about the incredible movies I've been in, Million Dollar Baby [ massive cheers ] The Shawshank Redemption [ even more cheers ] Bruce Almighty [ cheers fading to chuckles ]. One of the greatest things about being an actor is when someone comes up to you and says, "You know, that movie really helped change my life." It is because of this, that I wanted to share with you one similar such letter that this show, Saturday Night Live, received, because on television that doesn't happen quite as often.

[ Morgan Freeman pulls a letter out of his jacket and begins reading ]

Morgan Freeman: "Dear Saturday Night Live, I am writing to you because I found your show extraordinarily helpful in the greatest challenge in my life. Your endless supply of sketches on the subject matter have made me realize one thing – it's ok to be gay. At the beginning of the last season, I was still 'in the closest' and unsure of what to do with myself. How is my type portrayed in the pop culture? Quite frequently, as it turns out.

Morgan Freeman: "'Gay Frankenstein' showed me that everyone appreciates a gay man, and that gay people aren't viewed as monsters. TV Funhouse taught me that Bush does not have the scientific power to stop us. And Robert De Niro showed me how many people won't notice, even when it's their own son.

Morgan Freeman: "I was still uncertain if I wanted to go public, but the gay sketches kept returning week after week. "Gay Jeff Foxworthy", "Gaystrogen", "Gay Prison Inmate", "Gay Father on Mother's Day", David Spade, Green Day… it was just one gay themed piece after another. But what truly inspired me was the brilliant sketch "Gays in Space." I have decided that my life's goal will be to become the first openly gay man in space! Thank you, SNL, for never once backing off the issue at all, even if it meant repeating the same jokes over and over, because you have made a difference to me." And then at the end it says, "Sincerely, Jim Breuer." [ big laugh at mention of former castmember ]

Morgan Freeman: We have a great show for you tonight, The Arcade Fire is here, so stick around, we'll be right back with another episode of "Gays in Space!"
