Steve Carell’s Monologue
written by: Mark Jennings Reese II

…Steve Carell
…Amy Poehler

Don Pardo: Ladies and gentlemen, Steve Carell!

(Carell enters from the back door of home base)

Steve Carell: Hello!! Thank you! It’s great to be in New York City! Whoo! I understand the world has been shocked by the events of the week, with gas prices shooting up again, and the New Orleans destruction, and all that. And all I can say it, it ain’t so easy in The Big Easy!

(Audience reaction is mixed with laughter and groans)

Hey! Come on folks, lighten up! I can tell you, I’m feeling pretty good. I have a new hit sitcom on NBC, “The Office”! (Audience applauds) Thank you! I also have a wonderful new comedy hit film “The 40 Year Old Virgin” out, still in theatres! And I guess it’s #1 at the box-office again this weekend! (Audience applauds) Thank you! So it’s been a pretty good year for “The Carell-ster”! And I get to bang a former SNL cast member every night! Unfortunely, it’s not one of the funny, sexy ones. I got one that’s average looking and marginally funny. Remember Nancy Walls? Yeah, neither do I!

Since I’m having a good year, I want to give something back to the world. I’d like to give the New Orleans victims something…that I know they want. That is why I am going to donate my paycheck from hosting tonight’s show to the victims of the New Orleans tragedy. (Audience applauds) Oh don’t get excited, it’s only $1500! I know that’s not a lot, so I’m going to give them something else, as well, and you folks at home can enjoy this. I’m going to sing one of my favorite songs…and to help me is Lenny Pickett and the SNL Band! Lenny?

(Stagehand gives Carell a microphone to sing into)

(The SNL Band strikes up “Rock You Like A Hurricane” by The Scorpions)

(Carell jolts right into the chorus of the song, hitting the high notes)

"Here I am, rock you like a hurricane!
Here I am, rock you like a hurricane!"

(Amy Poehler’s interrupting cuts off Carell)

Amy Poehler: Hey Carell! Come on! You know as well I do, that singing that song is really in bad taste!

Steve Carell: What? Come on! It’s one of my favorite bands!

Amy Poehler: I know. I like The Scorpions just as much as the next person, just not that song. Not here, not now.

Steve Carell: (To the band) Do you guys know “Wings Of Change”?

(The SNL Band strums into “Wings Of Change”; Carell does the whistling solo)

Amy Poehler: Wonderful! Folks, we’ve got a great show for you this evening!

Steve Carell: Gavin Rossdale is here! So stick around, we’ll be right back!
